hey this is josh. i have chickens too and i think you should take the porch above the coop and cut a hole on the top and put a ladder that goes up on to it. you should put chicken wire up top so they have more room to run around in. think about it. josh

Yeah, the cleaning …
Yeah, the cleaning out is tricky, but bales can be pulled out easily and then the inside raked out. The boxes do have a cover and there is straw in there now. I’ve only had these chickens 7 months, but they are now laying 3-4 eggs a day!

Most chicken coops …
Most chicken coops I’ve seen were actual little buildings that you could walk into. I think that’s mostly for ease in cleaning out. Most nest boxes are dark. Are you going to add any shavings on the floors and boxes so they can snuggle in and to help clean the waste? How long have you had your chickens? Good luck!

LOL! thanx 4da advice, unfortunately cant get a dog as i hav a phobia about dogs T_T
and i’ve got a cat already but shes very old, and can barely carry her own weight let alone defend others, lol, and i’ve tried the hose but the little buggers keep returning (i think all English cats are use to getting wet, hehe) ..but i might consider the ‘catproof’ tractor, thanx for the kool advice, its nice to see us chikin lovers are just as crazy as each other! ^__^

Yeah, that’s a tough one…cat’s love the young ones and will keep coming back. You can either, get a dog, get a really tough cat that won’t eat your chickens, always watch out yourselves(maybe with a high powered hose in hand), or wait till they get bigger in several months. Also since they are small you could make a cat proof “chicken tractor”, or small movable cage.

wow thats awesome, i was wondering, i have a couple of chicks in my garden, and they’re only like 2weeks old, but i really want them to run free in the garden but we have a problem of cats constantly climbing over our wall, and attempting to attack them, any suggestions for my predicament?
