I’ve done that too, …
I’ve done that too, and felt the way you did. But after several years of this, I’ve come to know two facts about chickens: they lay eggs and they die. When I get a new order of day olds, I just expect that three will die of no particular reason, the hawk will get a couple before they lay, I’ll step on one or two, the dogs will get a few . . . If 12 of 25 reach adulthood, that’s a good yield. In other words, it happens to us all.

I thought you were going to fence the entire grassy area for the chickens… Did you make such a large grassy space so that you can shift the coop from time to time? I’m confused….
We have never seen …
We have never seen a fox in the back garden, but we have in the street out the front, so they are around! It is hard for them to get in the garden as we are in a mid terraced house and there is an 11 foot wall at the end of the garden. To get in they would have to jump over about 10 of our neighbours fences. I don;t rule out the possibility but it has not happened yet.
