We had a little Sebright that faithfully stuck to her nest like she was glued to it (we fed her while she sat there) and only got off once a day. She hatched 2 out of 7 eggs and is a wonderful mother. All three, along with the “half breed” Sebright sleep in the house. The other 5 Sebright sleep in their mansion

Hi thanks for your comment… it’s been my experience that Sebrights are not good broody hens.. though you may luck out and get one or two, they are far too active and don’t seem to sit still in the nest box. Though they do seem to be great and predictable layers. Best of luck to you! You may consider having another chicken sit on your Sebright fertile eggs?

First off, I wouldn’t breed from a bird less than a year old. Chicks will be smaller in general and the bird is not yet “prime”… One good rooster may service around 10 hens successfully… trios are more common when selectively breeding (one rooster two hens) Each egg will be fertile under those ratios. Be certain the Rooster has no flaws and meets the standard, as well as your hen(s), or you’ll be breeding poor traits. Both should be HEN feathered.

Depends on the age …
Depends on the age and condition of the hen, but my Silver Sebrights are pretty dependable layers… laying five or six days straight, off a day or two then back on a straight run… Unless your bird is older, expect almost an egg a day through spring and summer.
