    Thanks, we have …
Thanks, we have since replaced them with various other birds that we got from a breeder, only this time we keep them in a coop along with a dog run attached to it. The worst part of the whole thing is you find yourself getting attached to these little critters, especially when you’ve raised them by hand.

    I’m sorry to hear …
I’m sorry to hear that… Free Range isn’t possible in all situations.. when predation becomes a big issue, then steps must be taken to protect the birds.. they are domestic and may need help dealing with predators. That’s too bad you ended up with no chickens at all… (”>

  • inbredagogo says:

    we tried free range …
we tried free range here and lost most of our birds to predators such as coyotes, so we had to give away our remaining ones to a friend.

    Hi.. well, some …
Hi.. well, some breeds are more “home bodies” than are others… in general, my chickens don’t venture more than 150 feet from their home coop. I’ve had the odd Rhode Island Red hen that seems to want to cruise the driveway…. and I’ve seen her up to 100 yards away… Depending on how far your neighbors are, shouldn’t be a problem? I have neighbors in three directions with chickens and have never had mine go there, or there birds here…. they like to stay near food and shelter.

    Hi, there is …
Hi, there is already a 3 hour guide out on DVD which describes every aspect of raising chickens on free range… it’s Titled Regarding Chickens.. if you do a Google Search for it, there are many sources for getting a copy. Yes, they simply go into their coops on their own at night, actually before sunset. For started chickens, it’s best to have a fence around the coop and when they begin to get older, simply remove the fence, this helps them know their area and offers early protection.

g’day. i would like to ask a question about free ranging. i would like my chickens, which are now 1 and 2 week old chicks, to free range around my farm during the day. but, i would have to put them in the coop for the night time. how would i go about doing this. like, do they all just go in there during the night fall, or do i have to pick them up one by one and put them in there. can you make a vid on how you take care of your free rangers at night. thnx again
