will my chicks look bad or get sike or die. will they be disformed if two differet breeds of chickens breed and have chicks.
A chicken is a chicken.
It’s like if you mate 2 different breeds of dogs or cats — you still get a dog, or a cat.
Who knows — you might come up with a superior breed.

they’ll be fine. who knows what they’ll look like as adults but cross breeding should actually keep the next generation healthier. It’s inbreeding that causes genetic defects.

I’ve had chickens, including some crossbreeds.

I used to have backyard chickens, I miss them, I moved to the city to please a hubby!
They will be just fine! Its just like if a Lab mated with a Standard Poodle to make a Labradoodle.
The only way the chicks could look deformed or be sick is if something happened during incubation or if one of the parents was sick or had a deforming gene.

You will get some very interesting chicks. They will do just fine. This is a great idea. You will have a blast doing this. Just remember, one rooster is more than enough for about 20 hens. Roosters are very aggressive.

It depends on what types of birds you are raising and if you think both breeds could cross to create a decent offspring.
If you are raising a couple of types of layers, you might end up with better layers if you’re crossing a good solid rooster with a productive hen. However, crossing a meat bird with a bantam probably wouldn’t result in anything other than a straggly looking chicken.
Some breeders have been working on certain crosses to develop new colorations, new bantams and other variations of existing breeds. Doing this takes years of careful breeding and lots of culling of the flock. It takes dozens of chicks to get the result they are looking for.
An example of this is a group of some silkie breeders who are crossing their birds with turkins (turkey/chicken hybrid) to create "showgirls", which look like silkies with skinny, naked necks like turkins. They are hideous!
Don’t crossbreed your birds unless you either plan on eating your mistakes or think you’ll get a useful chicken out of it. Unless you have a plan on what to do with some potentially useless chicks, it’s easier to just collect eggs and eat them than it is to find a market for an unwanted bird.
