Today my husband went hiking after building the chicken coop…my job was to buil a WALKIN CHICKEN YARD. This is a no-wood-cutting project. The Walkin Chicken yard, is built quickly and is enough room for 6 chickens. The chicken yard is covered on all sides with poulty wire, including the ceiling. The simple to build modules can be assembled in minutes. The cost was less than 60 dollars. I built this in 3 1/2 hours by myself. Tonight we moved the new pullets into their chicken coop palace.

    Nice run! We’ll have make something similar soon. Have to redo several things concerning our chickens. No more peacocks but we have a thief crow stealing our eggs and maybe even our own hens may be eating the eggs. Have to change this before we “replace” all the hens… :(

    @VivianRinSC:Yes …
    @VivianRinSC:Yes chickens will eat their own eggs if they are broken, and then some of them crack open their own eggs. We found that by removing any broken egg immediately solves the problem. And gathering eggs twice a day instead of once, really makes a big difference. The trap door works well to get rid of ravens and crows eating hen eggs. Crows don’t like to go into a contained area, with only a small opening. The chickens will kill a crow if it’s in their coop,.

    @KillaC4Mammie: This is all you need. We throw in weeds from around the yard into the chicken yard, fruit, watermelon, squash, bread, cherries…whatever..if they like they will eat it.

    @KillaC4Mammie: You’re also forgetting chickens fly into trees. Even my small pullets can fly over this 6 foot high fence. I know this from experience. Your baby chicks at this age around 10 weeks will fly out in a day, and be gone gone gone. Even if your trim the wings, they still can fly over the fence.

    @KillaC4Mammie: Absolutely, you live along an area which have birds of prey and racoons will climb over the top of the coop and kill your chickens. This protects your birds, from cats, that will also climb over the fence and kill your chickens too, plus possom, falcons, hawks, ravens and other things, you probably don’t even know are in your woods.

    @KillaC4Mammie Hey …
    @KillaC4Mammie Hey Killa…….I think it’s a good idea to do so if you’ve got birds of prey in your location. Because they will certainly consider the chickens as a nice meal. LOL

    Also….. is it …
    Also….. is it necessary to cover the top with chicken wire when the walls are 6′ tall?
